Dak Prescott credits God as Cowboys embrace faith: ‘That’s who I am’

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott says faith has become an important part of the team’s culture, telling reporters after Sunday’s game that his teammates understand “we’re all here because of God” and are called to “serve a greater purpose.”
Dallas rallied from a double-digit deficit to beat the Houston Texans 34-30 in Houston and improve to 2-2, according to Yahoo Sports. Prescott finished 32 of 45 for 335 yards and a touchdown, including a 12-yard scoring pass to CeeDee Lamb with 40 seconds left.
At a postgame press conference following the Cowboys’ game against the Houston Texans, Prescott was asked, “Are you guys expressing more faith since you’ve been here?”
“Absolutely,” Prescott responded. “That’s who I am,” he added. “That’s who a lot of our guys on our team are.”

Prescott said Cowboys players seek to “be contagious” in their faith and recognize that their presence on the team is about more than football.
“We’re all here because of God, and we’re all here to serve a greater purpose.”
He said the approach is about "opening your perspective up when things happen, win, lose or draw," and asking "what's the purpose?"
“It’s about opening your perspective up when things happen win, lose or draw and asking, ‘What’s the purpose?’” Prescott said.
“We know what God wants us to do in our response and that’s being the best versions of ourselves, serving him, serving others,” he added.
Prescott also credited head coach Brian Schottenheimer for opening up that culture and said the team has "great chaplains in Jonathan and Tony Evans" helping lead it.
"I've been through so much in my life. God's always been the reason and, yeah, who I fall back on and my refuge, as I say," Prescott said. "I can't thank Him enough and never will be able to thank Him enough and just to see that transcend throughout our team, starting with our head coach, is special. It's something that we take pride in."
“At the end of the day, it’s about giving Him the glory,” Prescott asserted. “From that, good things will come. All great things will come. And so, I’m thankful for that.”
Prescott's remarks at Sunday's postgame press conference aren't the first time the athlete has professed his faith as he's reflected on his athletic career. After signing a four-year, $160 million contract with the Cowboys in March 2021, following a season-ending ankle injury the previous October, Prescott thanked God for his athletic accomplishments despite his challenges, Sports Spectrum reported.
“Even sitting there, holding my leg or whatever on the field, trying to put it back into place, or later on being in the hospital and waking up from surgery, that’s just what God’s thrown at me,” he maintained at the time. “If you’ve known my life, if you’ve known my story, whatever circumstance that is, I’m going to take it with a smile and be thankful that God has put me in this position to overcome it, to be an example to others.
"Through this whole time, I never had any doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be here," he continued, characterizing himself as "a guy that lives and stands and moves every part of his body off the word 'faith.'"
In an Instagram video posted four days after the Oct. 11, 2020, injury, Prescott expressed excitement "for God's purpose and plan," Sports Spectrum reported at the time.
“I know it’s bigger than anything that I see or I could have imagined, but I’m trusting Him. My faith is doubled down more than ever, and I’m thankful that He’s my Savior and He guides me in life. So I know through Him, all this will be possible and all this will be a great comeback and a great story,” he predicted.
