Derrick Rose Injury Update: NBA Officials Upgrades Call to Flagrant Foul; Point Guard Says Ankle Injury Is 'Nothing Too Serious'

Officials of the National Basketball Association have reviewed the incident that led to Derrick Rose's recent ankle injury and upgraded the call to a flagrant foul.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers' point guard also said that his ankle was not sprained and the injury was "nothing too serious."

Rose hurt his ankle after a bad landing during their game against the Milwaukee Bucks last Friday. At the last quarter, he tried to do a reverse layup but Greg Monroe caught up to contest the former MVP's move. However, Monroe's left arm made contact with Rose's neck and head while the point guard was in mid-air. The latter also turned his left ankle when he landed.

At the actual game, the officiating crew composed of Marc Davis, Josh Tiven and Gediminas Petraitis scrutinized the collision and ruled that it was a common foul -- a call that Rose and teammate Dwyane Wade called out after the game.

Talking to the press, Rose commented (via ESPN): "I think I'm the only person in the league that's not getting a flagrant for that call, bro."

Wade also reacted on the now ruled out call and said: "It's unfortunate, a guy goes down and he can't protect himself. From what we're told, as players, if they go around the neck it's automatic. And, Derrick said it when he got here. He said, 'Listen, y'all, I ain't gonna get calls.' And it continues to happen to him."

Meanwhile, Rose reacted to the NBA's decision to upgrade the call to a flagrant 1 and said he felt "a little justified." He also gave an update on his injured ankle and said: "It's mild. Not a sprain."

However, the youngest MVP awardee in NBA's history is not certain yet whether he will fully recover in time for their next game against his former team, the Chicago Bulls, on Tuesday. If not, the Cavaliers will probably place Jose Calderon in the starting point guard position, just like when Cleveland played -- and lost, 93-114 -- against the Orlando Magic last Saturday.
