Dido’s Son Shares Name With Controversial Eminem Song (VIDEO)
Pop singer Dido celebrated her 40th birthday on Christmas Day, and for the first time she has shared news of her newborn child, whom she named after a character from one of her hit songs.
The baby boy is called Stanley – the name of the deranged character in her song with Eminem, “Stan,” who murders his wife and unborn child before driving off a bridge after his fan letters to Eminem receive no reply. Dido’s son was born in July earlier this year, The Daily Mail reported.
The singer celebrated the holiday with baby boy and husband, Rohan Gavin, who worked with her on a promo two years ago. The couple was married last year, an occasion that also was mostly kept hidden from the media, and now reside in North London.
It is not clear whether Dido chose the name specifically because of the Eminem song, but her 2001 debut album No Angels, which features the “Thank You” song including “Stan,” is one of the most successful albums by a British female, and she won Best Female and Best Album at the 2002 British Awards for it.
The star was scheduled to perform at this year’s Academy Awards, but after finding out she was pregnant, she decided to cancel her performance. However, she explained her decision to her fans in a written statement:
“Hello everyone, It’s been a month of amazing news for me and now I have some more to share. Me and my husband Rohan are expecting a baby and we’re beyond happy and excited about it,” Dido said.
Adding, “So as some of you already know, I won’t be able to travel to LA for the Oscars ceremony to perform If I Rise. Obviously I’m really gutted about not being there – going to the Oscars has literally been a dream of mine since I was about nine.”
She is reported to be working on a new album, which would be her first since 2008’s Safe Trip Home.
