'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F' US Release Date: Topping Anime Film Charts (VIDEO)

"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F" has been steadily rising up the anime charts since it opened in theaters last Tuesday.

Japanese animated feature, "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F" has earned a total of $1.97 million in 985 theaters since it opened in the US on Aug. 4, and it appears to be heading towards a spot in the Top 10 Anime films -- a first for an independent film.

It has recently received a 100 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes and is fast approaching fan favorite, Hayao Miyazaki's "Howl's Moving Castle" in terms of domestic gross.

The Japanese anime action film is the nineteenth installment in the "Dragon Ball" series, and will be having a limited release in North American theaters, courtesy of marketing company, FUNimation.

It had earlier premiered in Japan in April, grossing nearly $58 million at the Japanese box office.

"Dragon Ball" creator, Akira Toriyama was reported as heavily involved in the making of "Revival F," the first "Dragon Ball Z" film in 3D.

The film follows Frieza, who has been successfully brought back to life, albeit in pieces, after he died in the previous film, "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods." He spent a decade in hell while his minions scrambled to collect all the dragon balls to summon Shenron, who brings Frieza back to life.

After his resurrection, Frieza regains his strength with the goal of turning into "Golden Frieza," to raise a thousand-man army and get rid of Goku once and for all.

Goku and Vegeta take on their Super Saiyan forms to defeat Frieza before he eliminates them and the Trunks.

Sean Schemmel voices the English dialog for Son Goku, with Christopher R. Sabat as Vegeta, and Chris Ayres as Frieza.

The animated film is scheduled to run in US theaters until Aug. 12, and in Australian theaters until Aug. 19.
