Elon Musk hit back at Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday after the X account of Newsom's press office taunted the SpaceX CEO over his transgender-identifying son.

"We're sorry your daughter hates you, Elon," Newsom's press account tweeted, along with a video of Newsom boasting about his support for transgender-identifying minors during a recent interview with The New York Times.

"I want to see trans kids," said Newsom, who claimed he has a transgender godson. "There's no governor that's done more pro-trans legislation than I have."

Musk, whose 21-year-old son Xavier now identifies as a female named Vivian Jenna Wilson, expressed grief in response to Newsom's tweet and attributed his son's gender identity struggles to mental illness and manipulation by figures such as Newsom.

"I assume you're referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children. I love Xavier very much and hope he recovers. My daughters are Azure, Exa (she goes by Y) and Arcadia, and they do indeed love me very much," Musk posted to X. He also labeled Newsom as "cruel" in another tweet.

Musk claimed earlier this year that Xavier was "born gay and slightly autistic," both attributes he noted often underlie gender dysphoria.

"I knew that from when he was about 4 years old and he would pick out clothes for me to wear like a jacket and tell me it was 'fabulous!,' as well as love of musicals & theatre," Musk said at the time. "But he was not a girl."

Xavier Musk has publicly criticized his father, saying that he "doesn't know what I was like as a child because he quite simply wasn't there, and in the little time that he was I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness."

During a 2024 interview with psychologist Jordan Peterson, Musk claimed his son is effectively "dead" after medical professionals "tricked" him into authorizing his son's chemical transition by threatening that he would otherwise commit suicide. He called for doctors who push such decisions to be imprisoned.

"And so I lost my son, essentially," he told Peterson. "So, you know, they call it 'deadnaming' for a reason, alright? So the reason it's called 'deadnaming' is because your son is dead. So my son, Xavier, is dead, killed by the woke mind virus."

Musk moved his companies X and SpaceX out of California that year in protest of California's positions on the topic of transing minors, citing a state law that prohibits school districts from requiring teachers to tell parents if their children identify as the opposite sex.

Many users on X expressed outrage at Newsom for the sentiment targeting Musk through his son.

"Sick bastard," said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. "Gavin, tell your henchmen to leave kids alone."

"This is raw evil, from a government account. I will do anything I can to stop this cretin from gaining more political power," wrote Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale.

"This is beyond evil. This is the government of the most populous state trampling on a parent of a mentally ill child," wrote activist Chloe Cole, who detransitioned after struggling with gender identity herself. "Rubbing it in his face. The CA government doesn't care about parental rights, they want your child to hate you. They will take your child and transition them."

Independent Women's Forum editor-in-chief and Fox News contributor Kaylee McGhee White discerned that Newsom's tweet indicated the leftist desire to use the transgender issue to destroy families by alienating children from their parents.

"One of the primary motivations of the Left in pushing gender ideology onto children is to divide them from their parents and undercut the family unit. They relish in it and will not stop no matter how many elections they lose," she said.

Theo Wold, who formerly served as deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, echoed McGhee.

"Reminder that the primary reason the left wants to push gender ideology to children is to divide them from their parents, destroy the family unit, and turn kids into loyal foot soldiers for their cultural revolution," he said.
