Evangelist Who Came Close to Suicide: Once I Pull the Trigger, What's Going to Happen?

Part Two of CP's Interview with Jay Lowder

Lowder explained that later, after his suicide attempt, his mom, without knowing how close her son had come to taking his life, suggested hearing a speaker at church talk about his own suicide attempt. After debating on whether he really wanted to go hear the speaker, he attended, and to his surprise the preacher did not talk about suicide, but instead about "the blood [of Jesus] and the cross, the suffering and the pain of Christ."

"He got to the end of the message and he asked this question: 'One day when you stand before God, will He welcome you into heaven?' So, I sat there and thought that yes, I did pray the [sinner's prayer] a long time ago, but you can't live the way I lived and be the real thing," Lowder said.

He realized that he did not have a relationship with Jesus and at that moment wanted to know Jesus "more than anything else."

"There was no Plan B or Plan C. I had already run my life and made a wreck of it. There was no recourse. There was nowhere else to go," Lowder explained. "God showed me that there was truly nothing left for me but Him."

At that moment he got on his knees and "cried out to Christ and with all sincerity I called out to Him and invited Him to be my God and to take over my life and ask Him to consume me."

"At that moment I received eternity with Him."
