'Fear The Walking Dead' News, Update: Series Creator Robert Kirkman Says Show Won't Be 'The Walking Dead' Prequel

Countless speculation has been thrown out to the public about AMC's upcoming TV drama series "Fear The Walking Dead." It is said that the spinoff will tackle the events that happened while Rick Grimes, the main character of its parent show "The Walking Dead," was in coma.

Creator of both series, Robert Kirkman, recently spoke with the people from Entertainment Weekly to further clarify the issue. He said that the companion series would actually highlight what happened "for a while behind the scenes."

"In pockets of civilization, there would be news stories that didn't really make sense and didn't seem connected. And that's kind of where we pick things up," Kirkman said.

Basically, there will come a point when the stories revolving Travis, Madison, and her family will line-up with the events concerning Rick and his group.

"I will say that it will definitely progress," the series creator said. "I will say that I don't consider this show to be a prequel to The Walking Dead, because there will be a point where a certain episode of this show will line up with season 2 of The Walking Dead, and a certain episode of this show will line up with season 3 of The Walking Dead. So we will be progressing through time to the point that we do pass the initial days of the outbreak."

Kirkman has told the press earlier of the same thing and they were quick to dish in their theories saying that there's a high possibility of crossovers between the two post-apocalyptic dramas. But that would remain to be a speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt.

"Fear the Walking Dead" premieres this August on AMC.
