5. 'Rock of Ages' — Def Leppard (1983)

The stadium rock anthem "Rock of Ages" became a hit from 1980s metal band Def Leppard with a title almost inadvertently drawn from the pages of Scripture. 

In a 2013 interview with VH1, singer Joe Elliot recounted how the lyrics came about after a Bible study was held in the recording studio the previous night, and a Bible left behind was opened to the old hymn.

"So I picked it up and started singing, 'Rock of ages,'" said Elliot — and the rest was history.
