'Five Nights at Freddy's Movie': Project Finally Finds Its New Home

It looks like the highly anticipated "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is a go after being pulled out by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema a few months back.

Video game developer Scott Cawthon, the man behind the franchise that inspired the project, has provided an update via Twitter.

His post suggested that Blumhouse Productions acquired the rights for the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie and is taking over the project.

According to Deadline, after Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema pulled the plug on the project, many studios wanted it for the taking with Lionsgate and Screen Gems among those that fought for it.

If Cawthon's post is any indication, the rights to the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie ultimately went to Blumhouse although a confirmation is yet to be made.

Considering the distributor is behind big screen hits like "Get Out" and "Split," fans of Freddy and his animatronic friends can be confident of the quality of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" film.

Announced in 2015, the project was supposed to be helmed by Gil Kenan, the director of the "Poltergeist" remake with David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Roy Lee producing it.

There were little to no updates in the years that followed the reveal, with Cawthon only saying last year that the script was being worked on and was taking long to put together.

He did say that the team behind the "Five Nights at Freddy's" film are committed to adapting it to the letter, but it looks like things fell apart in the end.

Blumhouse, however, is reportedly looking to start from scratch in working on the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie adaptation so the abovementioned creatives might not be attached to the project anymore.

For those who do not know, "Five Nights at Freddy's" is a hit horror survival video game franchise that follows the story of a security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza who is haunted by murderous animatronics who come to life after daylight.
