5. Trump's political affiliations have changed numerous times over the years. An early supporter of Republican Ronald Reagan for United States President in the late 1970s, Trump identified as a Republican by 1987. But he switched to the Reform Party in 1999 and ran a presidential exploratory campaign for nomination to go up against George Bush and Al Gore. He left the party due to infighting in 2001 and identified as a Democrat till 2008 when he endorsed Republican John McCain for President. Trump changed his party registration to Republican in 2009 and has vowed to remain there despite his brief stint as an independent in December 2011.
