The Sony Xperia Z holds its own against many of the high-end smartphones in the industry so it only makes sense to compare it to the brand new Galaxy S5.
Both devices feature pretty high-end specs, however, the Xperia Z is largely slept on in the U.S. Samsung hopes to shake up the market again with the release of the Galaxy S5, but it still remains to be seen if the new design and specs with be effective in the market. The S4 was a bit of a disappointment for the company while the Xperia line and Sony appear to be on the come-up. Here is a brief comparison of the two handsets.
The Xperia Z features a 5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 441 ppi. The Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with the same resolution at 430 ppi. These two devices appear to be dead even in this department as the Xperia Z is slightly smaller with more pixel density. The devices would have to be tested in side to side comparisons to see who would really come out on top.
The Galaxy S5 comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera with the fastest auto focus on the market, selective focus and high dynamic range for color correction. The Xperia Z features a 13.1-megapixel shooter with touch focus face detection, high dynamic range and sweep panorama. Both companies are pretty strong in this area. Samsung might have a slight advantage thanks to a few of the innovative new features. The pixel quality is also significantly better on the S5.
The Sony Xperia Z packs a Qualcomm quad-core 1.5GHz processor while the Galaxy S5 comes with a Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz chip. Both have 2GB of RAM which is a nice companion for their processors. However, the Galaxy S5's processor more powerful. Even still, the Xperia is a pretty quick and efficient device.
The Xperia Z is a pretty solid device considering it came out over a year ago. It can still stand up against a handset such as the Galaxy S5 which has some of the most impressive specs on the market. Certain aspects of the Xperia Z still keep it a step behind including the processor and the camera. But its pretty impressive to see that there are areas where the smartphones are dead even. Even though it's a great device, the Galaxy S5 still comes out on tops in terms of specs.
