The events in the third installment will take place three years after the previous movie. Reports say "How to Train Your Dragon 3" is expected to be a tearjerker because it will feature Hiccup and Toothless' final adventure together.

"We are gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away," DeBlois' said. "Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story."

"How to Train Your Dragon 3" was originally scheduled to premiere on June 17, 2016. However, the final release date for the movie was moved to June 29, 2018.
