iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 to Both Feature Displays Made by Samsung

Both the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2 will feature retina displays made by Samsung.

Samsung will begin supplying 7.9-inch displays for the next-generation iPad mini in the near future, according to new report from NPD Display Search and a report from The Wall Street Journal last week stated that the company will produce displays for the fifth-generation iPad as well.

Apple was rumored to be lessening its reliance on Samsung as a supplier due to their intense competition in the smartphone market, however, now it seems that tensions have died down a bit and their partnership will continue into this next generation of tablets. Companies such as LG and Japan Display will also be making displays for the iPad mini 2.

Apple has also been boosting its purchases of displays from Samsung since January for its fourth-generation iPad. Apple received about 2.3 million units from its competitor in the first quarter and that figure jumped about 80 percent quarter-to-quarter to more than 4.1 million units in the second quarter, according to the report.

iPad 5 rumors have been surfacing more and more hinting at an imminent release date for the device.

The latest information leak on the tablet involves a short video posted by the Japanese site Mac Otakara that shows the front panel and back shell of the iPad 5 assembled together for the first time.

This rear shell features a transparent and translucent logo instead of the silver one found in some of the other leaks. The fifth-generation iPad is expected to be released by the company sometime next month. The fact that the entire outer shell has showed up in this clip hints that the release date is quickly approaching.
