The Kyoto Protocol, the UN's long-troubled pact for combating global warming, finally got the green light after Russia handed the UN legal instruments declaring it had ratified the accord, news agencies reported Thursday. After being plagued for years by bitter negotiations and a US walkout, Kyoto will finally take effect just under three months from now. The Methodist church, amongst others, welcomed Russia
