Lady A, Boyz II Men unite for ‘The Chosen’ song as series wraps filming

Lady A and Boyz II Men have joined forces for a new song inspired by “The Chosen,” as the global hit series about the life of Jesus enters its final chapter after wrapping filming on its seventh and final season.

The Grammy-winning groups released “I Love The One,” the third single from Songs Inspired by The Chosen: Seasons 1–5, an album of original music “inspired by characters, themes and moments” from the first five seasons of the biblical drama. The album, created by 5&2 Studios and Capitol Christian Music Group, is slated for release Oct. 30.

The project arrives as “The Chosen” prepares for the Nov. 15 premiere of season 6 on Prime Video. The season chronicles the final hours leading to Jesus’ death and will culminate in “The Chosen Crucifixion,” a feature film opening in theaters March 12, 2027.

Meanwhile, creator Dallas Jenkins announced that the cast and crew recently completed filming the seventh and final season, bringing the series to an end after eight years and 528 days of filming. Season 7 will center on the resurrection of Jesus.

“I'm most grateful to … God who birthed this project through me,” Jenkins said in a social media post. “And I'll never fully understand why He chose me to do it. But I remember the morning of our final day of shooting. I woke up with so much joy in my heart for the first time in 528 days of filming; I didn't have another day of filming hanging over my head. I could just relax and celebrate it and feel joy. And I just went to the front lawn, doing kind of my morning prayer and alone time, and I just kept saying to God, ‘Look what you've done!’”

“I Love The One” brings together the harmonies of country trio Lady A and R&B group Boyz II Men, with lyrics reflecting suffering and the transformative power of encountering Jesus. An accompanying lyric video features scenes from “The Chosen” depicting Jesus’ miracles.

“You are the miracle maker/ You are the new life creator/ That's who you've been again and again/ You're such a wonderful Savior,” the lyrics say, in part. 

Lady A’s Hillary Scott, who co-wrote the song, said in a statement shared with The Christian Post that the collaboration grew out of her own connection to Scripture and the series.

“Collaborating with Boyz II Men on this song is a ‘pinch me’ moment for all of us. Their voices have been in my ears my whole life, so to hear us harmonize brings tears and goosebumps,” Scott said in a press release.

“Being a writer on ‘I Love The One,’ I was inspired by some of my favorite stories in the Bible. The woman who grabs the hem of His garment and is healed is especially poignant to me,” Scott said. “I started watching ‘The Chosen’ with my teenage daughter, and we’ve been deeply impacted by the portrayal of Jesus, and His love and mercy for us.”

Boyz II Men said the project also aligned with the group’s faith and allowed them to honor “the source of the strength, love and grace that have sustained us throughout our career.”

“Our journey has always been grounded in faith and the belief that music can serve a purpose greater than ourselves,” the group said in a statement provided to CP. “The message behind ‘The Chosen’ resonates deeply with us, reflecting the trust that every chapter of life can be part of a larger plan.”

The album rollout began in August with Tyler Hubbard’s “All I Need Is You,” followed by Jamie MacDonald’s “Roots,” a song inspired by Psalm 1 and the disciples’ perseverance through adversity. According to the producers, the first two tracks have generated a combined 5 million streams across digital streaming platforms and 700,000 video views.

The music project marks another expansion of “The Chosen” universe, which has grown considerably since the crowdfunded series began filming in 2018. The historical drama, which tells the story of Jesus, has reached more than 300 million viewers worldwide, according to 5&2 Studios.

Jenkins previously told The Christian Post that the show’s reach has never been the ultimate measure of its success.

“I really don't get caught up in the numbers or projecting the success or failure of it because I really don't care about success or failure,” Jenkins said. “I just care about pointing people to Jesus.”

More recently, Jenkins told CP that approaching the crucifixion in season 6 had reinforced the theme of surrender that has followed the series from its beginnings.

“Season 6 is the living out of what Jesus said: ‘not my will, but yours,’” Jenkins told CP earlier this year. “Jesus, God incarnate, expressed that His own will might be to avoid the crucifixion, yet He willingly chose surrender. If He was willing to put Himself through that when He could have gotten out of it, then our problems are much smaller by comparison. I want to follow in His footsteps.”

Reflecting on the project’s growth last year, he told CP he views his role as offering what he can and leaving the results to God.

“When I had a career failure eight years ago, God really reminded me and showed me that my job is just to bring five loaves and two fish,” Jenkins said. “The multiplication is up to Him.”
