Most MLB teams highlight LGBT pride month, half plan to host faith nights

As most Major League Baseball teams have either mentioned LGBT pride month on social media or plan to host a pride night, half of the teams are also hosting some type of faith night this year. 

Monday marked the start of June, which LGBT activists recognize as pride month. Major corporations and individuals often make posts about pride month on social media. MLB teams are no exception, although not every team has done so yet this month.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers have not acknowledged pride month on social media. 

By contrast, the Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners have all made at least one X post celebrating pride month. The Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays reposted a post about pride month shared by the MLB’s official X account. 

The Detroit Tigers acknowledged pride month in an X post and plugged the team’s Pride Night, scheduled for June 23. Similarly, the Colorado Rockies mentioned pride month in an X post while encouraging fans to join them for the team’s Pride Night on June 5. The St. Louis Cardinals promoted its June 5 Pride Night in an X post about pride month and invited fans to purchase specialized tickets for the game so they would get an “exclusive Pride-themed Cardinals cap.” 

The New York Mets changed the team’s profile picture on X, emblazoning the team’s logo with the rainbow colors that have come to symbolize LGBT advocacy. The Philadelphia Phillies made the team’s social media post about pride month its pinned post on X.

Both the San Francisco Giants and the Washington Nationals made social media posts about pride month in addition to changing the team’s profile pictures on X to bathe their respective logos in the rainbow colors. 

Even as one-third of the MLB teams have not mentioned pride month on social media, that does not mean that they are not recognizing the occasion at all.

The Atlanta Braves are holding a Pride Night on June 4, while the Chicago Cubs are hosting a Pride Night on June 15. Both the Los Angeles Angels and the Houston Astros will do the same on June 3. The Seattle Mariners’ Pride Night is June 29. 

The Miami Marlins have a Pride Night on June 5, the Milwaukee Brewers’ Pride Night is scheduled for June 12, and the Tampa Bay Rays’ Pride Night is on June 20. The Cincinnati Reds already hosted their Pride Night on May 29, while the San Diego Padres had theirs on May 1. 

Only one team is not hosting a pride night event in 2026: the Texas Rangers.

However, the team is holding a Faith and Family Night on June 18. As explained on the team’s official website, the event will feature “personal testimonies from Rangers players Wyatt Langford, Josh Jung, Cody Bradford, Jacob Latz, Jalen Beeks, and others, sharing how faith impacts their lives both on and off the field.”

The Rangers are not the only team hosting a faith night of some kind this year. The Detroit Tigers are holding an event titled “Home Plate,” where “current and former Detroit Tigers will share about their careers in professional sports and their faith in Jesus Christ,” on June 6.

The Milwaukee Brewers will host a Ballpark Day of Faith on June 14, which will consist of a Catholic mass and a tailgater. The St. Louis Cardinals’ Christian Day at the Ballpark will take place on June 27. 

The Baltimore Orioles will have a Christian Faith Night on July 9. The Seattle Mariners are hosting Faith and Family Day on Aug. 1, while the Tampa Bay Rays’ Christian Faith Day will take place on the same day. The Colorado Rockies will hold a Faith Day on Aug. 2, which will feature a performance from Crowder. 

The Kansas City Royals are hosting a Faith Night on Aug. 21, featuring a performance by Christian musician TobyMac. On the same evening, the Arizona Diamondbacks will hold a Faith and Family Night, during which Christian singer Matthew West is slated to perform and Diamondbacks players will give testimonials. 

On Aug. 29, the Cleveland Guardians will host a Faith Day where players and team officials “will share their personal faith journeys and discuss how faith influences their lives on and off the field.” A portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales for the Aug. 29 game will support the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Cleveland.

The Pittsburgh Pirates already hosted a Faith Night on May 2, which included a performance from Christian musician Chris Jamison and Pirates personalities discussing “their faith and how it has affected them both on and off the field.”

On the same evening, the San Diego Padres held a Faith and Family Night featuring a performance by Vertical Worship. The Houston Astros’ Faith and Family Night was on April 17, while the Miami Marlins hosted a similar event on May 22.
