'Mr. Robot' Season 3 Cast News, Air Date: Bobby Cannavale Joins as Series Regular; Show Returns in October

Fans of the show "Mr. Robot" will have to wait a little while longer for season 3 as the series has been pushed back to an October release. The good news is, fans can look forward to seeing a new character on the show, who will be brought to life by actor Bobby Cannavale.

According to USA Network, Cannavale, who is known for his stints on "Boardwalk Empire" and "Vinyl," will be appearing in the third season of the USA Network show in a regular capacity. He will be playing the role of Irving, a used car salesman who is terse and straightforward.

In other cast news, BD Wong, who portrays The Dark Army leader Whiterose, has been promoted to a series regular starting next season.

The delay in the upcoming season's release is apparently the result of giving creator Sam Esmail more time to make sure "Mr. Robot" season 3 is perfectly done. Just as he did in season 2, Esmail is set to helm all 10 episodes of the upcoming season.

"Sam Esmail is a true creative visionary who continues to deliver a series that boldly tackles timely issues and leans into the major headlines of the day. We're eager to share the next phase of Elliot's journey with fans this fall," said Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment President Chris McCumber.

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Chief Content Office Jeff Wachtel previewed that the upcoming season will "engage viewers in a whole new way with Sam and team continuing to find ways to surprise, challenge and delight the audience."

The third season of "Mr. Robot" is also expected to shed some more light on the supporting characters, and not just Elliot, who is portrayed by Emmy Award winner Rami Malek. Joanna Wellick (Stephanie Corneliussen) and Angela (Portia Doubleday) are only two of the characters who are set to take more of the limelight, with the latter's romantic connection with Elliot being explored as well.

"Mr. Robot" season 3 will return to television screens in October.
