'Nashville' Season 6 News: Final Season Preview Teases 'New Set of Stories' and 'New Musical Configurations'

The upcoming season of "Nashville" will be the show's last, but it looks like they are pulling out all the stops for the final outing.

In a preview released last week, showrunner Marshall Herskovitz, creator Callie Khouri, and the show's main stars talked about what fans can expect from the final season of the musical drama series. "There's a whole new set of stories, a couple of new characters. Life moves on in these very interesting ways this year," Herskovitz said.

Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen also tease what their respective characters, Gunnar and Scarlett, will be going through in the new season. Gunnar and Scarlett have been together for the longest time, so each will try to find themselves outside of their relationship now that they have separated.

Chris Carmack, on the other hand, previews exciting stories for his character, Will, as well as some nice collaborations in terms of music. A scene featured in the clip shows Will singing with Gunnar and Avery. "We have some surprises," Khouri said. "There's some new musical configurations that are gonna be really exciting."

Jonathan Jackson, who plays Avery, is looking forward to sharing his character's personal and professional struggles with fans. The struggles will not be one-sided, however, as Juliette will also go through some things in the show's last season. "Fans are not gonna believe all the juicy details we have this season," Hayden Panettiere teased.

As for Deacon, Charles Esten revealed a more personal arc for his character, especially given that he is still reeling from the hole left by Rayna (Connie Britton). "Some of these plots that we do, we touch on real-life issues," Esten explained. "People lose the love of their life, so what is it like after that? There's a lot of places to go. Is he gonna be alone? Is he gonna find somebody else?"

From the looks of the season 6 trailer, it definitely looks like Deacon is ready to move on and find someone new in Jessie (Kaitlin Doubleday), as the pair are seen kissing.

"Nashville" season 6 will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 4, on CMT.
