National Guard attack update: Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, has died from injuries after DC shooting; Trump calls up 500 more Guard troops
National Guard members identified
Authorities have identified the National Guard members who were shot as Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Andrew Wolfe, 24. Both remained in critical condition Thursday morning.
Both Beckstrom and Wolfe were likely sworn in just 24 hours prior to the shooting, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro told reporters Thursday. "They answered the call, they took the charge, they volunteered, and they put their lives on the line for people they don't even know,” Pirro added.
Immediately after the shooting at around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday near the Farragut West Metro station, other National Guard members responded to the scene, Pirro said. A short time later, a Guard member shot the suspect, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, while others helped to subdue him.
