‘Act of terror’: Trump requests additional National Guard troops in DC
Following the attack, President Donald Trump said he requested 500 additional Guard troops to be deployed in the Washington, D.C., metro area.
In an address from the White House on Wednesday afternoon, Trump announced that the additional 500 troops will focus on removing illegals from the nation’s capital. “If they can't love our country, we don't want them,” the president added.
He also referred to the shooting as an “act of terror” and urged “every family to say a prayer for two great heroes.”
The 500 additional service members will join roughly 2,200 troops who were deployed in D.C. as of Sunday morning.
