NBA Trade Rumors 2015: Will the Sixers Trade for D'Angelo Russell?
When a player isn't happy with his team, it's just a matter of time for him to request a trade. But what if that player is the draft's second round pick?
The underachieving D'Angelo Russell of the Los Angeles Lakers is reportedly unhappy with the minutes being afforded to him by coach Byron Scott, to a point that letting him go in exchange for another top pick may very well materialize. There have been rumors that the Philadelphia 76ers, which by the way are the worst team in the league right now, want to get the point guard out of Ohio State in a trade involving Jahlil Okafor, the number 3 pick in the draft.
Several sources said that the Sixers were actually looking to get a high-quality guard in the draft when they unloaded Michael Carter-Williams, but they eventually were forced to get Okafor when the Lakers surprised everyone by getting Russell with the second pick. The talk of shopping Okafor is no secret, though, after the rookie made headlines with a couple of run-ins with the law, including a fight outside a bar and getting flagged for speeding.
Furthermore, everyone in the Sixers' management knows for a fact that it could be difficult for Okafor to become effective with the team as long as Nerlens Noel is playing great. Well, they might actually need someone who addresses their most pressing need — a point guard.
So with the Lakers turning out to be a bad fit for Russell and the Sixers having regretted drafting Okafor with his off-court antics, it looks like this one's a trade made in heaven. The only question now is if both teams are willing to let go of this much talent from both players. There is good reason why both have been picked high in the draft and letting them go can likewise become a decision that each team's management will regret later on.
For now, there are no official talks, but once the trade deadline nears, there might be some surprises and unexpected twists.
