'Neo Yokio' News, Release Date: Netflix Drops First Trailer

Anime lovers have something to watch out for this month on Netflix. A few days ago, the giant streaming site dropped the first clip from the new anime series "Neo Yokio," which is set to debut on the network in a couple of days.

Written and executive produced by "Vampire Weekend's" Ezra Koenig, the series comes as a result of Netflix's collaboration with Japanese animation studios Production IG and Studio Deen, as well as South Korean studio MOI Animation.

Ahead of its premiere, Netflix released a new trailer for the upcoming six-episode series that introduced Neo Yokio as "the greatest city in the world." "It is a diverse labyrinth of cultural and architectural innovation. Of course, whenever a city becomes the envy of the world, problems are bound to arise," a voice narrated in the trailer.

Based on the synopsis for the upcoming series, "Neo Yokio" is a bizarre futuristic comedy series that focuses on a great city bound to encounter many problems.

Executive produced by Nick Weidenfeld and Koenig, the series stars Jaden Smith as the lovesick Kaz Kaan. In the story, he is a "magistocrat" family's youngest member, who are pink-haired demon slayers who previously fought for the freedom of Neo Yokio. The trailer depicted Smith's character as one whose demon-slaying ability was still weak. Rather than continuing the legacy of his family, he is more concerned about worldly things like field hockey and fixing his broken heart.

The trailer revealed that his life will change when Kaz comes across former fashion blogger Helena St. Tessero, who is portrayed by Tavi Gevinson. After their encounter, Kaz starts to question his own knowledge about Neo Yokio.

Aside from Smith, other artists who will voice the characters in the series are Susan Sarandon, Jason Schwartzman and Jude Law.

"Neo Yokio" will premiere on Netflix on Sept. 22.
