Nun Gives Birth to Son; Didn't Know She Was Pregnant
A nun who was not aware that she was pregnant gave birth to a son in Italy this week, according to local media.
The 31-year-old nun, whose name was not released, thought she was merely suffering from severe stomach pain when she was taken to the S. Camillo De Lellis hospital in Rieti.
"I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain," the nun, originally from El Salvador, said, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.
She reportedly named her son Francesco (Francis) - also the title of the current pope. Both are healthy.
The nun belongs to the "Little Disciples of Jesus" convent in Campomoro.
The story has drawn the interest of the public as nuns take vows of chastity and obedience, among other things.
Some commenters have mocked the incident as "another virgin birth."
