Westside Christian Fellowship founder Shane Idleman trusting God after cancer diagnosis

Shane Idleman, the founder and lead pastor of Westside Christian Fellowship in Lancaster, California, says he is leaning on Jesus for healing after abandoning alternative treatment in Mexico for his recently diagnosed head and neck cancer.
In a post on his website titled “A Calculated Assault Against Cancer” from earlier this year, Idleman, who had previously shared the diagnosis with his church, shared how doctors told him he had cancer in February.
“For approximately 7-months, I had a swollen lymph node in my neck, and in February 2026, I was diagnosed with head and neck cancer,” he revealed. “Before this, I had been feeling worn down for a few years. I also had night sweats for many months. I truly felt like I was slowly dying. I still have no idea how long I was fighting this disease.”
“And this is where my journey continues, as I calculate an assault against cancer and navigate the same waters many of you are facing,” he explained in the post, which goes on in detail about his cancer treatment journey.
He said in a video that the PET scan results he received in April found cancer in a few of his lymph nodes as well as a 2-centimeter tumor in "the tonsil area."
In an update to his church two weeks ago, where he appeared with his wife, Morgan, Idleman recalled how he traveled to Mexico in search of alternative treatment, which he ultimately abandoned because he suffered severe reactions.
“My body was in shock,” he said. “They had an ambulance on standby.”
He said that while God eventually guided him away from the alternative treatment in Mexico, he doesn’t plan on pursuing mainstream cancer treatment because of potential side effects.
“There's no plan B for me. Surgery is not an option. Radiation's not an option. Chemotherapy at this point is not an option,” he told his congregants. “So trusting God, not being naive, not being stupid.”
In the post on his website, Idleman argued that some traditional doctors push treatments like radiation or chemotherapy because they “don’t want to be sued.”
“The sad reality is that nine times out of 10, most conventional physicians will discourage you from alternative therapies. But I don’t blame them — that’s all they’ve been taught. As one very skilled doctor told me, ‘They don’t know what they don’t know.’ And some push conventional treatments because they don’t want to be sued later by family members who ask why they didn’t do more,” he argued.
“The key for me is to look at science through the lens of creation and design. How did God create us and design our immune system? I love physicians. I have friends and members of our church who are in the medical field — we need them. But unfortunately, many in the secular world completely miss the connection to God."
In the update last month, Morgan Idleman said she is just trusting God with her husband’s future.
“Our treatment plan is Jesus,” she said. “For some reason, I’m just like, ‘he’s going to be fine.’”
