Peter O'Toole Dead at 81, Legendary Lawrence of Arabia Actor Passes Away in His Sleep

Legendary Hollywood actor Peter O'Toole died in his sleep last night at 81-years-old in a hospital in London among friends and family.

The star of the classic Lawrence of Arabia movie, retired from acting last year after not "having the heart" for it anymore, according to TMZ.

"His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time," O'Toole's daughter released in a statement. "Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts. In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished."

His daughter said O'Toole had been sick for some time and funeral preparations are already in the works.

"In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished," she wrote according to CNN. "We will be happy to speak to you all then but in the meantime if you could give Peter O'Toole the respect he deserves and allow us to grieve privately we'd appreciate it."

O'Toole had appeared in over 90 films and was nominated for an Academy Award eight times, however he never won, which is a record for those nominated.

In 2003 he was given an Honorary Oscar was a lifetime of work.

"Whose remarkable talents have provided cinema history with some of its most memorable characters," the engraving read.
