Pocahontas Wedding Site Discovered by Archaeologists
An archaeologist has claimed to have found the location where Indian girl Pocahontas married Englishman John Rolfe in 1614.
William Kelso, a researcher who has conducted in depth studies on the area has claimed that the location of the wedding site is in Jamestown, Virginia – on a spot which once held the wooden posts of a church.
The story of Pocahontas tells of a young Indian princess girl placing her head on that of Englishman John Smith to save him as he is about to be executed by her father.
Pocahontas, was originally born by the name Matoaka, and later changed it to Rebecca. Records indicate that she was born approximately 1595, and is thought to have saved the life of John Smith in 1607.
She tragically died after converting to Christianity whilst held captive in 1617. She was thought to be aged just 22 when she died. She married Englishman John Rolfe and they had a son together.
