'Power Rangers' The Movie Update: Reboot Film To Utilize Original Character Names

Contrary to what has been reported earlier that Lionsgate will be renaming the Mighty Morphin teenagers in the upcoming revival movie for "Power Rangers," new details emerged saying that that the film will instead be utilizing the original character names that fans have long already known.

Citing the report from Screen Rant, the official Twitter page of the big screen project announced that the names that will be used in the movie will be "Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy & Trini!"

The social media post went on to say the film's outing date which, for those who might have missed it, will be on 2017.

SR went on to draw speculations on the latest announcement saying that if the forthcoming title will follow the 1993 TV show ("Mighty Morphin Power Rangers") then the character lineup will be as follows:

Jason – as the Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus; character to be played by Dacre Montgomery

Kimberly – as the Pink Ranger/ Pterodactyl; character to be played by Naomi Scott from "The Martian"

Billy – as the Blue Ranger / Triceratops; character to be played by RJ Cyler

Zack – as the Black Ranger/ Mastodon; character to be played by Ludi Lin

Trini – as the Yellow Ranger/ Sabre-Tooth Tiger; character to be played by Becky Gomez

The story is said to find the aforementioned names as ordinary high school kids who are infused with extra-terrestrial powers. With the aid of Zordon, the group must harness their abilities to save the world from the wrath of Rita Repulsa.

Penning the script are screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller. The two had previously worked for "X-Men: First Class" and Thor." Directing the project is "Project Almanac" helmer, Dean Israelite. The latter had earlier revealed that he wanted to have his take on the franchise which will now be more "mature but playful." He assured fans that the iconic colourful costumes, high-tech vehicles (Zords) and all other recognizable aspects of the 90s superhero franchise will be featured in the movie.
