'Rick and Morty' Season 3 News, Updates, Spoilers: Rick to Bust Out of Galactic Prison; Vin Diesel as Guest Star and More

The return of Adult Swim's black comedy animated series, "Rick and Morty", for its third season, is trumpeted by its own showrunners as the best season the series has so far, making it one of the most anticipated series comeback yet.

More episodes mean more adventures and laughs all around as we follow Rick's escape from the Galactic Federation prison, while the series' tune will take on a darker route to explore the depth and complexity of its characters, according to Yahoo.

For the yet-to-be initiated, "Rick and Morty" is a hilarious comedy following the life of Rick Sanchez as he tries to make amends with estranged daughter, Beth. Rick has the uncanny ability to travel across the universe, which he explores alongside his grandchildren Morty and Summer. In true Dan Harmon fashion, it is layered with brilliant tropes from pop culture, much like cult favorite TV series "Community".

Rick's new adventures

The third season will likely pick up from Rick's imprisonment in the Galactic Federation prison, which is rather unfortunate as he was already starting to feel more accepting of his estranged family. Too bad his family thinks he has abandoned them yet again!

A concept art of the series premiere depicted Rick trying to break out of prison in an insect body. The Galactic Federation prison has amped up its security and surveillance upgrades, but Rick did not seem to mind as he pushed his way through the jail bars. A storyboard from artist Erica Hayes, on the other hand, revealed that Rick had been talking to Evil Morty, who may or may not be helping him bust out of jail.

The season is also expected to jumpstart with a face-off with a nasty prison general who is bound to make his life in the cell a living hell. The creators have also revealed an early sketch of Rick trapped in the sewers–to battle rats!

New angles, new storylines

Dan Harmon had previously expressed his intention to have actor Vin Diesel over to voice a character. It is possible that the "Fast and the Furious" star will play the role of the new Galactic Federation prison guard. The showrunners were also dropping hints about an ex-wife making a comeback in the show, as well as more adventures for his granddaughter, Summer.

It is likely that "Rick and Morty" Season 3 will air by November or December, as no official announcement has been made yet. Writer Mike McMahan did say the season was going to be "worth the wait".
