Five years ago, Chantal Gauthier-Vaillancourt was diagnosed with cancer in her right eye, but natural treatments and radiation led her into remission. After waiting the medically recommended five years, she and her husband conceived. However, the cancer soon returned.

Gauthier-Vaillancourt's options were few: abortion, radiation therapy or surgery. Unwilling to put her unborn baby at risk, the respected Edmonton, Alberta midwife decided to make the astonishing sacrifice of having her cancerous right eye removed.
