"Skullgirls" Is Going Mobile on Android, iOS, with Added RPG Mechanics

Hidden Variable Studios is putting "Skullgirls" on the mobile market and has added new elements to the fighting gameplay that fans will surely look forward to.

"Skullgirls" is an indie fighting game with a cult following, and it is going mobile. The game by Hidden Variable Studios already has its own set of mechanics for PC and console platforms. However, they are planning to bring more features like RPG and collectibles system to spice up the iOS and Android versions.

The news was revealed during a panel at the Anime Expo 2016 this month. "Skullgirls" will reportedly have more RPG features in addition to its fighting game style core, according to Kotaku. The mobile "Skullgirls" game is currently being worked on by Lab Zero, the franchise creator, as well as Hidden Variable Studios.

Furthermore, they added more characters, which can be upgraded. Players can also build decks and be assisted via a "Fight Assist" component for in-game battles that require tactics or have been modified for turn-based playing.

The "Skullgirls" mobile game will have more stories that will add to the ones that are in consoles.

"The mobile game is designed to tell complimentary stories to the console game, with the game's first 'season' acting as a prequel to the console game," Destructoid noted.

The "Skullgirls" 2016 mobile version will reportedly be released at the last quarter of the year on iOS and Android.

"Skullgirls" Mobile Beta Test

For those who can't wait to get their hands on the newest game spinoff, they can opt to sign up for the beta test. Those who would like to get a shot at becoming a tester can head on over to the game's official website for more details. The developers note that those with advanced smartphones may take part in the closed beta testng as older devices may not be compatible.

"Skullgirls" Fans to Love Mobile Version

Hidden Variable Studios co-founder Charley Price was excited to be part of the team that develops "Skullgirls" mobile. He said in a press release that he has been a fan of the game and the features they're adding to the mobile version will be something fans and gamers will really like, Polygon shared. Apart from fighting game players, casual gamers will also find it enjoyable for its accessibility and ease of use.

There were a lot of proposals for making a "Skullgirls" puzzle game, but Lab Zero Games CEO Peter Bartholow rejected the offers. However, with Hidden Variable fully grasping the concept of "Skullgirls" and its popularity, the two collaborated to make the mobile game happen.
