The Rams come into this game on 3-3 and stuck in 3rd place in the strong NFC West division. They are a game back from 2nd placed San Francisco 49ers, and well off the pace of the high flying 6-1 Seattle Seahawks.

St Louis know they have to win games like this against other mid-tier teams and will be hoping to get their record way up above .500 to ensure they are in the mix later in the season when the playoff spaces are being determined.

Their opponents today are the Carolina Panthers, who are amazingly second in the NFC South despite being 2-3. With the Atlanta Falcons at 1-4, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 0-5, Carolina find themselves as the second strongest side if the weak division, behind only the solid New Orleans Saints who are way ahead on 5-1.

The Panthers had a good game in Week 6, winning on the road against Minnesota 35-10. They return home today where they will hope to consolidate that win with another against the Rams to lift them to .500.

Carolina have been good on the rush this season, ranking 7th in the league with an average rush gain of 135.8 yards per game. However, on the pass they have been decidedly lackluster, ranking 27th in the NFL with just 200.8 yards per game.
