Beer giant Budweiser garnered backlash for its Super Bowl LI ad featuring a retelling of the immigration story of their founder.

Dubbed "Born the Hard Way," the ad featured the hardships that nineteenth-century German immigrant Adolphus Busch experienced on his way to St. Louis, Missouri.

While Budweiser itself denied any claims that the ad was meant to be political, many on social media both supportive and opposed disagreed.

"Across social media, Budweiser has been praised and savaged along partisan lines. Right-leaning or alt-right-leaning sites immediately condemned the ad," noted The Atlantic.

"In a national climate marked by acrimony and protest, most everything consumed by the public stands to be distilled through a political lens."
