'Supernatural' Season 10 News: Jensen Ackles Directs Third Episode, Episode 3 Plot Revealed

Jensen Ackles returns to the director's chair for the Oct. 21 episode of "Supernatural," and in an interview with TVLine, the actor spoke about what it was like to step behind the camera for the fourth time.

"Not only was it tricky to portray because we actually had shot Episode 3 of Season 10 prior to episodes 1 and 2," said Ackles, "But I directed it. So that was another double whammy on me, a.) you're going to direct the first one—that's always challenging—[and] b.) you're going to have to be three episodes into a character you've never played before. Go! I hope that the audience receives it. I'm far too close to this episode that I normally am to most episodes."

In the previous episodes, Sam (Jared Padelecki) discovers that Dean (Ackles) is not dead, but is now a demon and is on the road and getting into all sorts of trouble with Crowley. Sam set out to find his brother, only to get captured by a man who claims that Dean killed his father.

Sam manages to escape from Cole, and as Sam and Dean reunite, Cole appears. Dean beats him, and Sam, in an attempt to save his brother, takes a chance and sprays Dean with holy water, handcuffs him and takes him to the bunker.

Here's the official synopsis for Season 10, episode 3, titled "Soul Survivor."

"Sam continues his efforts to save Dean from the Mark of Cain. Crowley realizes Dean's demonic antics are starting to cause problems for him in hell so he searches out an unlikely ally—Castiel," it reads.

Season 10, episode 3 of "Supernatural" airs Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
