Texas city declares husband, wife, kids as 'fundamental building block' of society in proclamation
While governments across the U.S. continue to celebrate the LGBT lifestyle at the state and local levels, the City of Fate, Texas, located about 30 miles northeast of Dallas, has declared June as Nuclear Family Month to protect "family-oriented values and strong sense of Christian community."
The city of just under 23,000 residents pointed to the authority of Scripture during its June 1 City Council meeting, in which Mayor Andrew Greenberg declared that “from the dawn of creation, God ordained the nuclear family — one husband, one wife, and their children, whether biological, adopted, or fostered — as the fundamental building block of a healthy and flourishing society.”
Citing both “studies and lived experience” which support the civil and social benefits of “strong families,” Greenberg noted that “many residents of Fate believe that the traditional family structure reflects enduring cultural values and deeply held Christian convictions that have helped strengthen communities throughout Texas and the United States.”
He cited the contributions from local “churches, ministries, pastors, and faith-based organizations” which help guide families in Fate “seeking to build strong homes grounded in faith, responsibility, and love.”
“The City of Fate recognizes that strong marriages, stable homes, and engaged parents contribute to safer neighborhoods, educational success, economic stability, and the overall well-being of the community,” Greenberg read from the proclamation.
“As one of the fastest-growing communities in Texas, Fate seeks to preserve the family-oriented values and strong sense of Christian community that continue to attract families seeking a safe and welcoming place to live, worship, and raise children.”
In an interview Monday with The Christian Post, Greenberg said he wanted to make the proclamation to recognize families in his community whose lives are built on faith, marriage and traditional Christian values.
“I don't believe those values should be hidden. I believe they remain worthy of public recognition, appreciation, and celebration in the community they have helped build,” he said.
“As a Christian, I make no apology for the fact that my understanding of family is informed by Scripture. I believe God designed the family to be one husband, one wife, and their children, and I believe that institution has served as the foundation of strong communities for generations.”
For Greenberg, it’s those same values that those in elected office will reflect and help to shape the community in which they live.
“The real question is not whether values will influence public life, but which values will influence public life,” he continued. “Since our nation’s founding, the Christian faith has helped shape our understanding of marriage, family, personal responsibility, and human dignity. Those principles have had a profound influence on our nation, our state, and the communities we call home.”
The city’s official proclamation was timed to coincide with the start of the annual month-long celebration of LGBT identity, which was itself originally celebrated as “Gay Pride Day” on the last Sunday in June.
Once dedicated to marking the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, the monthlong celebration has seen an explosion in mainstream celebrations over the last two decades, with more “all ages” events catering to young adults and even children.
In addition to Fate, Tennessee also recognized June as Nuclear Family Month, with a House joint resolution introduced by Republican state Rep. Bud Hulsey that includes language similar to the proclamation from the City of Fate.
While the resolution did not single out the LGBT community, it cited “God’s design for familial structure” as foundational for civic life.
“The nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children, is God’s design for familial structure and has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world,” House Joint Resolution 182 states. “The nuclear family is God’s perfect design for humanity and is aligned with the long-held traditional values of Tennessee.”
Condemning the rise in fatherless families and homes, the resolution also claimed: “Tennessee's values do not align with the humanistic, globalist ideologies of the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and like-minded organizations that fight for population control through the means of promoting sterilization and abortion practices.”
In a proclamation issued Monday, Indiana Republican Gov. Mike Braun recognized June as Nuclear Family Month, while officials in Arkansas and Utah proclaimed June as “Fidelity Month.
