'The Flash' season 2 cast, news, spoilers: Who is stepping up to take over S.T.A.R. Labs? Will fans be seeing the Killer Frost this season?

In the finale of season 1 of "The Flash," many saw Barry Allen (Jay Garrick) beat the Reverse-Flash, also known as Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh). Although this is seemingly a victory, the disappearance of Wells has a lot of consequences, including the position he left behind at the S.T.A.R. Labs. Now that he's gone, who will take his place?

According to Entertainment Weekly, the person stepping up for the role would be Iris West, played by Candice Patton. Andrew Kreisberg shared, "Iris slides into [the role] very naturally. She's a born leader. One of the best things in the premiere is Barry decides that he wants to work alone because he doesn't want to risk anyone else's lives, and Iris is really the one who gets the band back together again. She's the only one who can stand up to Barry."

It would make sense that Iris will have the ability to keep Barry in check, considering the strong feelings between the two. However, there could also be some changes to Barry after he returns from the portal of the unknown, which might affect his emotions.

Another female character that we'll be seeing more of is Dr. Caitlin Snow, played by Danielle Panabaker. Zap 2 It recently interviewed the actress and asked whether it was in the cards that she will play Killer Frost, just like in the comics. The actress answers vaguely, saying, "What's so cool about this show is how, at least in my experience, how faithful they are being to all the comic book lore. They're so respectful of the stories that have been told and it's exciting. I mean, the thought that goes into The Flash costume and all of that, it would be exciting to be a part of that." Although it sounds like nothing is set, it can safely be assumed that she is willing to take on the role when the time comes. She also shares with another interview that writers have given her "so much meaty material to work with" in the next season.

The Flash season 2 will be premiering on The CW this Oct. 6, Tuesday at 8/7c.
