'The Good Wife' Spinoff News & Updates: 'Malcolm X' Actor Delroy Lindo, 'Game of Thrones' Star Rose Leslie Join Cast of CBS All Access Drama

The cast of "The Good Wife" spinoff continues to expand. "Malcolm X" actor Delroy Lindo and "Game of Thrones" star Rose Leslie have joined the CBS All Access drama to play series-regular roles.

Diane Lockhart's New Nemesis

According to The Wrap, CBS All Access announced on Thursday that the still-untitled spinoff of "The Good Wife" will introduce Lindo as Robert Boseman. The new character is a Chicago lawyer who will make Diane's (Christine Baranski) life more difficult. Robert will challenge Diane's ability to stay in the business and poach her associates and clients after she got embroiled in a financial scam.

Executive producers Robert and Michelle King described Robert as a strong character who dominates every scene. They added the series' new attorney intimidates other lawyers while earning the admiration of all of his clients.

Aside from "Malcolm X", Lindo is best known for his role in Spike Lee's film "Crooklyn". The TV credits of the 63-year-old British-American actor and theater director include "Believe", "Kidnapped", and "Blood & Oil".

Diane's New Ally

Aside from the announcement on Lindo's casting, the streaming service also dropped the news that Leslie joined the cast as Diane's goddaughter. Per Variety, the 29-year-old Scottish actress will play Maia, a new bar passer who joins her godmother's Lockhart & Lee.

Maia's budding career will be destroyed by the enormous financial scam that wiped out Diane's savings and tainted her reputation. After being thrown out of Lockhart & Lee, Diane and Maia will team up with Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at one of pre-eminent law firms in Chicago.

Before playing Ygritte in HBO's "Game of Thrones," Leslie rose to fame as Gwen Dawson in "Downton Abbey". She also appeared in BBC One's "Luther", ITV's "The Great Fire" and Channel 4's "Utopia".

Air Date

According to THR, the first episode of the spinoff of "The Good Wife" will debut on CBS in February 2017. The rest of the episodes will be exclusively aired on CBS All Access as the streaming service's first original scripted series. The as-yet-untitled show will have 10 episodes.

Aside from Lindo and Leslie, it was also announced earlier that Sarah Steele will reprise her role as a series regular. Her character, Marissa Gold who is Eli's (Alan Cumming) daughter, will work as Diane's secretary-turned-investigator.

The setting of the new series will take place a year after the events of "The Good Wife" Season 7 finale last May. Just like the original series, the new show will be produced by CBS Television Studios, along with King Size Productions and Scott Free Productions.
