'The X-Files' revival cast news: Joel McHale plays news anchor

Several actors shared their excitement in their involvement with the upcoming revival of "The X-Files."

Joel McHale was able to land a role in the series. Access Hollywood reported that the actor was excited to be sharing scenes with The X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. He said, "It was like I had won some sort of contest to be like, 'You get to be on the 'X-Files!' When I go like, 'All right, so Mulder's here ... and Scully's here,' I can't believe, like, I cannot believe my good luck and thank God,"

McHale will be playing the role of a news anchor from a conservative network. He goes by the name of Tad O'Mally, who then becomes an ally for Mulder. He plays a vital role in introducing them to Sveta, played by Annet Mahendru. Her character is essential to the season, as she had been abducted by aliens, which the two will investigate.

Along with McHale, "Chuck" actor Vik Sahay will also be joining the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will play a mysterious character who Mulder will seek, in order to obtain information. He recently tweeted details of the series, explaining that fans can expect a thrilling return under the leadership of creator Chris Carter.

Previous reports also noted that Kumail Nanjiani will also be playing a role in the season as an animal control office. The comedian has been a long-time fan of the series. He has a podcast about The X-Files in which he was able to have Duchovny and Anderson as guests to reminisce about the series.

As the production is currently underway in Vancouver, FOX recently released a teaser trailer that revealed the relationship status of the two FBI agents. It was confirmed that the two are no longer dating, which surprised and shocked fans.
