3. First Asian-American Woman to be in a presidential cabinet
In 2001, President George W. Bush nominated Chao to be the secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, making her the first Asian-American woman to hold a position in a presidential cabinet.
"She is the longest tenured Secretary of Labor since World War II, and the only member of President Bush's original cabinet to have served the entire eight years of his Administration," stated her online biography.
