The U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday that the national finals of the Presidential 1776 Award competition would air that evening on CBS and later be available for streaming on Paramount Plus.

The national finals featured 20 students from 18 states answering verbal questions about the American founding. The top-three finalists won a combined $250,000 in scholarship funding.

The national finals culminated a months-long process that began in February when students from across the U.S. were invited to complete an online test. Four students from each state or territory were invited to advance in the competition and participate in regional finals, where the field was winnowed further.

While the competition took place three weeks ago, details about the winners and runners-up are only now becoming public after it aired nationwide.

On Tuesday, the White House’s rapid response X account shared video footage of the three scholarship winners meeting with Trump and U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon in the Oval Office. The president awarded the three students presidential challenge coins and posed for a photo with them.

Miriam Washut of Wyoming took first place and said she intends to attend Wyoming Catholic College. Summer Brondstetter of Washington won second place and told Trump she would like to attend Hillsdale College in Michigan. The third-place finisher, Rowan Kozminski, announced his intention to attend The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania — Trump’s alma mater. The president offered to write Brondstetter a letter of recommendation to Hillsdale.
