Trump's week in review: America 250; birthright ruling; midterm convention announced

2. Trump announces midterm convention
With the midterm elections that will determine control of the U.S. Congress for the final two years of Trump’s term now four months away, the president announced in a Truth Social post Tuesday that the Republican Party will hold a "midterm convention."
Political parties normally hold national conventions during presidential election years, not midterm election years.
The midterm convention will take place in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 9 and 10, Trump said. But he did not provide details about a venue.
Envisioning the occasion as a “truly Historic Event,” Trump said the convention will discuss his political accomplishments and feature “hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators who are powering our Nation’s Golden Age, and proving that America’s best days are still ahead of us.”
“We will also have lots of Great Entertainment — It will be a RALLY like none other!” he vowed. “America’s 250th Birthday is approaching, and together, we are building the foundation for the next 250 YEARS of American Greatness.”
All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives will be on the ballot in this fall’s midterm elections, along with 35 U.S. Senate seats and 36 gubernatorial elections. A Democratic victory in one or both chambers of Congress would severely hamper Trump’s ability to get his preferred agenda enacted into law and could open the door to a third impeachment.
