3. Trump goes to China to talk trade deals, Iran
Trump traveled to China this week, attending a state banquet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and meeting alongside top American business leaders with officials from the Chinese Communist Party.
During an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity that aired Thursday, Trump discussed several topics covered during his meetings with Xi.
The president said China agreed to purchase 200 Boeing jets, a deal Trump said would create “a lot of jobs” for Americans. He also said discussions focused heavily on Iran and its nuclear ambitions.
According to Trump, Xi “said he’s not going to give military equipment” to Iran and appeared to agree that Iran should not obtain nuclear weapons.
Noting that China gets “40% of its oil” from Iran, Trump indicated that China has “agreed they want to buy oil from the United States.”
According to the president, “They’re going to go to Texas. We’re going to start sending Chinese ships to Texas and to Louisiana and to Alaska.”
Earlier in the week, Trump highlighted the business executives joining him in China, describing the trip on Truth Social as “an incredible gathering of the World’s greatest Businessmen/women proudly going to China.” Among those traveling with Trump were X, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk; Apple CEO Tim Cook; Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg; GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp; and Qualcomm CEO David Solomon.
