2. Trump speaks with leaders of India, China
In posts on Truth Social throughout the week, Trump announced that he had spoken with the leaders of the only two nations that have larger populations than the United States: China and India.
Trump detailed his conversation with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a Tuesday post on Truth Social, writing, “He agreed to stop buying Russian Oil, and to buy much more from the United States and, potentially, Venezuela. This will help END THE WAR in Ukraine, which is taking place right now, with thousands of people dying each and every week!”
Trump also detailed a trade deal the two leaders worked out, which will involve the U.S. reducing tariffs on India from 25% to 18% in exchange for India completely eliminating tariffs on U.S. goods. Another aspect of the deal involved India committing to buy over $500 billion worth of American goods, including energy, technology, agricultural and coal products.
In a separate Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump announced that he had a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Topics of discussion included trade, the military, Taiwan, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the volatile situation in Iran, and China’s purchase of American oil and gas. They also discussed China's purchase of soybeans from the U.S.
Trump added that the conversation touched upon Trump’s upcoming visit to China, scheduled to take place in April.
