Trump's week in review: SAVE America Act push, Women's History Month celebration

1. Trump vows not to sign any other legislation until the SAVE America Act is passed
In a Truth Social post published Sunday, Trump announced that he would not sign any legislation until the SAVE America Act is passed. He expressed support for requiring senators who oppose the measure to conduct a talking filibuster, where lawmakers would have to make the case against the legislation on the Senate floor rather than blocking it from reaching the 60-vote threshold needed for passage.
Trump encouraged lawmakers to “go for the gold” and reject the “watered down version” of the legislation. He highlighted the essential provisions of the bill as requiring voters to show ID and proof of citizenship, as well as eliminating mail-in ballots except for those in the military or individuals who have an illness or disability or are traveling.
The president also stressed the importance of other aspects of the legislation not directly related to voting and elections, specifically the prohibition of trans-identified males from competing in women’s sports and a ban on life-altering gender transition surgeries for youth with gender dysphoria. “DO NOT FAIL!!!” Trump proclaimed.
Trump’s remarks about the SAVE America Act come as the legislation has passed the Republican-controlled House of Representatives but has stalled in the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate because of opposition from Democrats, who hold 47 of the chamber’s 100 seats.
At least seven Democrats would have to vote in favor of the legislation for it to overcome a filibuster and have a chance at passage unless a talking filibuster is invoked or the Senate changes its rules to allow legislation to pass with a simple majority rather than a 60-vote supermajority.
