Vanessa Bryant Divorce: Step Father Calls Her a Gold Digger

Vanessa Bryant's ex-step father has slammed his daughter as a greedy gold digger who had been eying estranged husband Kobe Bryant's reported $150 million estate.

Stephen Laine, who was married to Vanessa's mother for 13 years, has provided his own theory for why the mother of two waited so long to divorce her cheating husband.

"Her mother taught her well to wait for the ten-year mark [before divorcing]," Laine told TMZ.

Last week the couple's publicist revealed that after 10 years of marriage, Vanessa had filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences.”

Bryant, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, reportedly cheated on his wife countless times over a long period according to numerous sources.

In 2003, Bryant was arrested after being accused of sexual assault by a 19-year-old hotel employee in Colorado. While 33-year-old Bryant admitted to his infidelity, he insisted it was consensual and eventually settled the matter out of court.

Despite her husband's scandalous affair, 29-year-old Vanessa stood by his side.

Critics have questioned why the All-Star guard's cheating suddenly became an issue for his wife, and many- like Laine- suggest the timing of the divorce is not coincidental. Under California law, a couple must equally divide their assets after 10 years of marriage, and Laine is convinced that the divorce filing was a calculated move.

"In California ... it's considered a long term marriage and then she gets paid for life or until she remarries ... just like her mother is doing to me," Laine said.

"I have to pay her mom $1,800 every month and clearly they don’t need it," he fumed.

Yesterday The Christian Post reported that producer and close friend of Kim Kardashian, Carla Dibello, reportedly had an affair with Bryant.

The affair has not been denied.
