Vanessa Simmons 'Nervous' Telling Dad Rev. Run About Her Pregnancy

Vanessa Simmons, the 30-year-old daughter of the famed Run DMC rapper-turned-reverend known as Rev. Run, recently revealed that she is five months pregnant and opened up about her apprehension when it came to breaking the news to her father.

Simmons is expecting her first child with her boyfriend of eight years, Mike Wayans. Wayans, 28, is the son of actor and comedian Damon Wayans.

Since the pair have yet to become husband and wife, Simmons admitted that she was nervous telling her minister father about their soon-to-be daughter.

"I was so nervous telling my dad at first being that I'm not married YET but he was very excited and is supportive 100 percent. His concern is just that I'm happy," Simmons told Us Weekly. "Both families are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new baby girl. She's coming into two huge families waiting to give her lots of love."

Simmons delved deeper into her father's feelings when speaking with Essence magazine about the matter recently.

"There's this whole idea of first comes the marriage then the baby carriage so I was so nervous, but my dad was actually really excited because this is the first grandchild for my family. I think somewhere deep inside he was kinda like, 'When am I going to experience that part of life,'" she told Essence. "Of course he wants us to get married, but for now he was like, 'We're gonna figure this out. Just be happy and have a healthy pregnancy.'"

Still, Simmons revealed that she planned to walk down the aisle with her boyfriend in due time.

"Of course we talk about that and it's looking good, but I don't want to be a pregnant bride," she told Essence. "I wanna have a beautiful wedding, hopefully a destination wedding where I can show off my figure in a beautiful long flowing dress."
