WEA Welcomes Dr. David Jang to North American Council

The World Evangelical Alliance strengthened its North American Council last week with the addition of a new member.

The network of 128 national evangelical alliances and 104 associate member organizations on Thursday welcomed Dr. David J. Jang, president of the Olivet Center for World Mission (OCWM) in San Francisco, as the newest member of its North American Council. The North American Council consists of members from the WEA International Council, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) and the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) - the largest network of evangelicals in the United States.

"We are delighted by Dr. Jang's appointment to our North American Council," said Geoff Tunnicliffe, International Director for the WEA, in a public announcement. "Dr. Jang has a wealth of experience in Christian higher education and cutting edge mission strategies. He will be a great asset to the global work of the World Evangelical Alliance."

In addition to his position at OCWM, the international mission organization that he founded, Jang is also the founder of Olivet University, a Bible-based institution of higher learning based in San Francisco and the site of WEA's Center of Information Technology. Jang initially served as Olivet University's president until retiring in 2006. He currently serves as the university's chancellor. Since August 2005, Jang has supported the WEA in various capacities.

"I am deeply honored by and grateful for the trust WEA placed in me," commented Jang in a news release. "I will work diligently, together with individuals across the vast network of WEA, to reward this trust."

Jang will be joining North American Council members including Dr. Joel C. Hunter, senior pastor of Northland Church in Longwood, Fla., who joined the council less than a year ago.

Prior to becoming the WEA's international director, Tunnicliffe also served on the North American Council.
