CM Punk on WWE Exit: Says 'Money is Not Everything'

Former WWE superstar CM Punk recently spoke with Colt Cobana on the Art of Wrestling podcast to open up about his thoughts in leaving the professional wrestling entertainment company, which he said all boils down to his mental health.

The interview went for nearly two hours and the "tell-all" conversation uncovers some of what happened when he was fired.

He revealed that at the day of his wedding with WWE Diva AJ Lee, he received a FedEx mail.

"It was my termination papers. I was fired. I was fired, on my wedding day," he explained. "Very calculated, very deliberate."

"The letter was ridiculous. It was like 'your contract is terminated, you forfeit all of your royalty rights, you're in breach of contract as of Jan. 27," the sixth-longest reigning WWE Champion said.

Given the situation the fighter-performer felt it made sense for him to be "disappointed and miserable."

"Money is not everything, ladies and gentlemen, that will be a big theme in my story," Punk said.

Punk, meanwhile, recognized that by doing the interview and laying out everything on the table, there's a possibility that he'd be seen with bitterness.

"It's okay to be bitter about stuff. You have to eventually work through it and get over it, which is what I've done, but there are a few bright spots; a few things that still get me to this day," he said.

However, some think CM Punk will eventually return to WWE.

"The Chicago native's mentality is certainly understandable since WWE seemingly attempted to put a damper on the most important day of his life," according to Bleacher Report. "With that said, there are multiple cases that have set the precedent for spurned individuals eventually returning to the company."

They mentioned Bret Hart and The Ultimate Warrior being two of the biggest names in the federation who have buried the hatchet and opted to return.

"It is impossible to say when some type of resolution might ultimately be reached, but wrestling fans know better than to declare that Punk and WWE are finished with each other for good," the site concluded.
