Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, denounced the new stance.

Awad claimed that the announcement was President Donald Trump’s way of handling “panic over his looming impeachment” by appealing to “the most extreme parts of his political base.”

“To reject international law and the rights of the Palestinian people who suffer under an illegal occupation contradicts our nation’s claimed support for justice and human rights,” stated Awad.

Awad went on to claim that if this remains the position of the United States, then “the two-state solution is officially dead, and Donald Trump dealt the death blow.”
