$99 HP TouchPad Sale: CyanogenMod Team Releases Android Port Update, Alpha 2

Just one week after releasing the alpha version of its Android port for the HP TouchPad, the CyanogenMod team has released an alpha 2 update.

The alpha 2 version of CyanogenMod 7.1 runs Android 2.3, Gingerbread on the TouchPad, which originally runs on HP's WebOS.

Alpha 2 has fixed a number of bugs that were found in alpha 1, however, CyanogenMod notes that the port is still extremely unstable.

"All disclaimers from alpha 1 apply to this version as well so be sure to review them. The use or attempted use of alpha 2 may result in very bad things to you, your TouchPad, your data, your friends, family, and loved ones. Use alpha 2 at your own risk!" the team said in its release statement.

Via, Rootzwiki, CyanogenMod has detailed a number of alpha 1 bugs it hopes has been resolved, including:

- Speaker volume shuts off when headphones are plugged in.
- Some battery drain issues have been resolved.
- More apps in the Android market; developed by Flemmard.
- Temporary removal of fsck_msdos to fix a folder deletion on the media/sdcard.
- One "sleep of death," where TouchPad won't wake up, cause has been fixed.
- Wi-Fi now shuts off when TouchPad is in sleep mode.
- Vibrate mechanism fixed.
- Touchscreen now continues to work after sleep mode.
- Now supports CIF.
- Better charge for Touchstone.
- Broken links fixed.
- PPTP VPN works.
- Now supports OpenVPN.
- Now supports USB mounting in vold.
- Update fixes in ACME Installer.
- Update fixes in Surfaceflinger to improve performance.
- Update fixes in Upstream.

CyanogenMod notes that with this update there is now an ACME UnInstaller that users can utilize if they wish to return to the original WebOS platform.

However, the uninstall should also be used with caution.

Commentators note that installing Android on the HP TouchPad will void the tablet's warranty.
