'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 3 Casting News, Update: Luke Mitchell Gets Promoted to Series Regular, Inhumans to Be Further Explored?

Fans of the hit crime-fighting TV drama series from Marvel and ABC "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." ended its second season with a lot of exciting developments and mysteries which will certainly be tackled on its upcoming third season.

A report from Cinema Blend said that a lot of planning from the creative crew has already been started for Season 3. And while information is still scarce, the publication did share some exciting casting developments on the show.

Actor Luke Mitchell has been upped to a series regular position. this means that followers of the Marvel TV tie-in will see more of the Australian actor's character, Lincoln, taking significant parts in the development of the series now that he's one of the main cast members.

The "Tomorrow People" alum debuted in "S.H.I.E.L.D." as a charismatic Inhuman who helped Skye (Chloe Bennet) discover her powers. He eventually merged with Agent Coulson's (Paul Gregg) S.H.I.E.L.D. faction when a rift in the organization occurred.

"We loved Luke this season," executive producer Jeffrey Bell told Entertainment Weekly. "We have a lot of ideas for Luke … He was a nice addition this past season, so he's definitely being considered for all that."

Cinema Blend speculated as to how the events in the next chapter will play out in respect to Lincoln and the Inhumans. According the site, the new S.H.I.E.L.D. team codenamed "Caterpillars" will certainly be like the MCU version of the Secret Warriors. Although there's still no information as to who will be recruited in the superpowered squad, "it's a good bet that Skye will recruit Lincoln."

Aside from what he can do, Lincoln's presence will allow the show to probe even deeper into the issue of the Inhumans. This will eventually serve as a set-up for the upcoming MCU big screen offering in 2019, "Inhumans," the site added.
